This article I want to show how the masters (at least I) are preparing their adventures. And yes, for all my examples, I will use D&D 5 of the edition, t.To. This system, by which I have been led the last 3 years and I have accumulated quite a few stories related to it.
So, first you need to understand that in the case of DND there are 2 types of adventures – official and copyright. The former are published by the creators of the system and all of them are spelled out. And when I say everything, I mean everything. Opponents, their arrangement, lutus, locations, NPS, NPS characters, NPS goals, NPS appearance. All. In the second case, the host does all this himself. But even when the master has a ready -made adventure, another no less difficult task falls on his shoulders – creating an atmosphere. A fairly large number of factors affect it, but about them a little later. Let’s go in order.
Ready adventures can be found in electronic form in the public domain on the Internet. Some of them even in Russian. However, they can be bought on the official website of the publisher in print. These adventures are divided into several types, but now not about that. It is important that if the master wants to conduct these adventures, then you will not believe, but they need to read them. And you know what? Read them is the same as reading a good book. Well, by extreme, most of them. However, you need to read without missing important things. So, for example, a year ago I had little time to prepare an adventure and because of a hurry I missed the driving power of history in the text-the motivation of the characters. The experience was to put it mildly like that. Well, after reading, the most cheerful part begins in ready -made options, what is in copyright, t.e. It comes time to catch up with the atmosphere.
For a more colorful transmission of the atmosphere, the masters use different techniques. I will try to highlight the most important of them and describe my approach to them.
The first and one of the most important ways is to play the characters. The fact is that the master controls a huge number of NPS and for the bunning effect, many prefer to change their voices or speak with an accent. For example, the goblin can poorly know the common language and speak only in simple words, and talk about yourself in the third person. Well, the last and most difficult thing that can work for the atmosphere is work with the backstory of characters. Usually, if the player has prepared a good story, you can use it during the game. Creating your own story is a real challenge for the master. It can take quite a lot of time. Creating your adventure is a purely creative process. Although no, I can advise one thing. Make the plot as flexible as possible. A competent choice of monsters affects the interest of players during the fighting. And you need to understand that opponents, locations for battles and the battles themselves should be diverse. Firstly, you do not need to throw very strong enemies at the party alone. It’s not enough when it works. But if you do this, then think over an interesting mechanics to them. For example, from my recent bosses, I can cite an example from which, when the damage was obtained, blood clots flew out, which crawled to this creature and if they crawled to it, they completely restored all the resulting damage.

They must understand that their characters are mortal. And their characters can really die during the adventure. This is a completely natural course of things. Players should feel risk. If they are too sorry for them, they will not feel like the heroes of this world who overcome difficulties. But if you all the time throw them into hopeless situations, they can just stop playing. You need to find a balance. However, this comes with driving experience. Remembering my first adventures now, I understand that I had a full trash.
